Amazing PowerPoints on Bats

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been reading and researching amazing facts on bats. We started with a KWL chart asking ourselves everything we KNOW about bats and everything we WANT to learn about bats. We are now ready to fill in our last column of the chart with everything we LEARNED about bats. With a partner, each fourth grader created a powerpoint presentation on the computer about bats. The finished products are amazing. We can't wait to share these presentations with other classes, as well as, our parents at Parent Teacher Conferences.

Package Arrives
We had a fun package arrive in our classroom this week from our pen pals in New York (Grandpa and Grandma Jones, otherwise known as Mrs. Morrison's parents.) We had the opportunity of writing them at the beginning of the year and introducing ourselves. The package they sent in return was filled with lots of fun things about the little town of Macedon, New York that they live in. We are excited to write them throughout the year and tell them about the exciting things we are doing in fourth grade. Grandma and Grandpa Jones are excited to watch our writing and spelling skills improve as the year goes by. It is fun to have pen pals.

Fourth Grade Busy Bucks
*Busy Bucks Well Spent
As part of our classroom management program, fourth graders have the opportunity to earn busy bucks (fourth grade money). As each student earns their money, they learn the process of managing their money so they have money to spend at our class store. Our store is open for business every other Friday. Mrs. Robinson is our store manager. Lunch with Mrs. Morrison is auctioned four times during the school year. These boys saved their money and spent $125 for lunch. It was well worth it as they ate their happy meal from McDonalds. Donations for our store are accepted at any time. (If you read this post, leave a comment and you will receive $10 in busy bucks. Don't forget to leave just your first name. Thanks for checking the blog.)
Great Artist Program- Norman Rockwell's "Boyhood Dreams"

We are very lucky to have the "Great Artist" Program at our school. Each month we are introduced to an artist and one of their prints. This month Mrs. White, our art mom, helped us with Norman Rockwell's "Boyhood Dreams." We look forward to learning about such artists as Braque, Seurat, Cezanne, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec. Our latest accomplishment is hanging in the hall and will be up for Parent Teacher Conferences the first part of November.

First Grade Buddies
We have the opportunity of being "buddies" with Mrs. Erickson's first grade class. Each Friday we buddy up for an activity. So far we have enjoyed creating shape poems, sorting word activities (both on our laptops), football fun with phonics and much more. We look forward to many learning opportunities as we work together with first grade.

Lessons to Live By
Loving our first aid kits
Today we had the privledge of having a nurse come talk to us. As part of our healthy lifestyle unit, we have been learning about first aid practices and ways to stay healthy. Mrs. Accord gave us a hint about washing our hands to the ABC song. Once we get done singing the song, then our hands should be clean. We learned some great things from Mrs. Accord. We appreciate her taking time out of her busy schedule to talk with us. We also appreciate the first aid kits she gave to each fourth grader. We hope that we will have a happy and healthy year in fourth grade.
